“Where’s Your Shame, Woman?”

5.07.2012

I came across this riveting video on one of my favorite feminist blogs, this afternoon. Of course, I chuckled my way through it, and I am still resisting the urge to track this dude down, just so I can talk to him about what in the world goes through his head. (The title of this post is one of my favorite quotes from the video, by the way.) It is amazing, to me, that there are actually people like this in the world. As if Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church weren’t enough, now we have even more misogyny and ridiculousness to love. Can I get any ladies or gents to volunteer to crash one of these services with me? Oh, my bad. I should shut my mouth, because this is America and men can believe whatever they want to believe. Gosh darn it, what makes me think that I have any opinions, anyway? Apparently, I’m just a woman, sending this country on the fast-track to hell. America isn’t screwed, because our debt rises about $3.97 billion per day. We’re not in any trouble, because we’re constantly involved in wars, and it’s definitely not because we live in a culture that belittles and shames more than half of its population, simply because of what is between our legs. We are in trouble because these damn women have too much power, that’s why! They’re making decisions, now, and that’s just not how things would have worked in the “good ol’ days.” Oh, and my favorite part is when he discusses the “mistake” of giving women the right to vote. Hilarious.

Jeez, chicks! What up with you and your career-oriented goals and opinions?

I believe that this man is very misinformed about his God, among other things, and I’m trying to be compassionate enough to understand that opinions, such as these, take a lifetime to form. Someone taught him, just like he is teaching others, which, frankly, is terrifying. This cycle will continue, until someone, somewhere has the courage to break it.

Perhaps, I should just shut up about women’s issues. Perhaps, I’m being too emotional, because it’s in my feminine nature. Perhaps, I’m just letting my anger get the best of me. After all, I can’t control my emotions like a man.

LOL, just kidding. What people need to understand is that women’s issues are not solely women’s issues. They affect our entire society and cripple us from moving forward, when they are ignored, ridiculed, or made to seem insignificant. If you can’t trust us to make decisions about our own lives and how we live it, how can you trust us to raise children? To contribute to society? To make a mark on the world, other than how many loads of laundry we’ve done in a lifetime? People should be mad about this video (and not only mad, but infuriated), regardless of their sex. I’m sure, though, that there will be countless people who will proclaim, “Hell, yeah! Now go make me a sandwich, woman!” Because that one never gets old. You are just too clever for me!

Strange world we live in. Strange, strange world. I hope you all enjoy the next twelve minutes and three seconds of Peterson’s wisdom, should you choose to glance at this video, but let me warn you that you’ll never get that time back in your entire life.

xoxoxo

P.S. Someone, PLEASE, tell me that this is a joke.

I suppose that I am glad he has the right to say whatever he believes. I am very fond of the fifth amendment. However, I find I want to say to him that I am glad to see a “black” man is so small minded. I find his statements as offensive as he would find mine should I state something horrifying such as “slavery should never have been abolished.” To lump all women into this large mass of useless estrogen is quite offensive. As one of those intelligent women I find he has apparently been bested by a few women in his time. Personally, I hope to never meet the God he speaks of and the God I speak to is ashamed of him and his narrowmindedness.
